Tricks of the Trade – Restored Artefacts in the Museum of Applied Arts11/12/2008. - 02/08/2009.Museum of Applied Arts
Another aim is to show visitors how sciences and the most modern technical advances can help the protection of our cultural heritage. The 3D process of the artefacts invites us to a virtual adventure: something, which is today no more than rubble or ruins, becomes a piece of art in the hands of the restorers. This happens virtually on the screens and for real in the workshops of restorers.
Our exhibition wants to draw attention to the scientific and artistic work that is being done in order to save and keep the mementoes of the past. The so far little-known and not very respected work of restorers is important in lengthening the life of the pieces of art, similarly to medicinal healing. A restorer makes a diagnosis, tries to find the cause of decline and damage, decides on a therapy, strengthens, rehabilitates and pieces together something that was in fragments. The results of the restorations of the last 50 years, which need quiet, persistent, skilled and experienced work form the exhibition, showing the 60 pieces of restored artefacts by 32 experts.
